Some comments about OpenGroupware vs Kolab

see http://www.opengroupware.org/

Differences between Kolab and OpenGroupware:

Kolab
OpenGroupware
Kolab uses an IMAP server (Cyrus) for storage of calendar items OpenGroupware uses a database (postgresql or frontbase)
Kolab is based on several well established Open Source Linux programs, OpenLDAP2, Postfix, Cyrus Imapd, ProFTPD, Apache 1, Inet Daemon, Cyrus SASL 2
A perl script connects all of them.
OpenGroupware is the open sourced version of the Skyrix Groupware Server.
It uses postgresql and apache, and some own packages.
The specific Kolab scripts (could be described as glue between the other packages) are written in Perl. The code is written in Objective C.
Kolab comes in OpenPKG packages, and is an extra subsystem on linux.
Advantage: selfcontained system, does not influence existing running programs. Easy to install on every linux distribution
Disadvantage: some programs are running twice. how well is updating of single packages possible?
several guides for installation on different linux distributions available
Kolab was created by several companies that worked for the german government in a contract.
The Skyrix Software AG published their groupware server in the open source licence, and provide an enterprise distribution of OpenGroupware.

Though I am not sure how precise that information is.
http://docs.opengroupware.org/Members/helge/ZideStore/ZideStoreFreeBusy/view says there is freebusy support.

Jean-Michel Dault from MandrakeSoft has integrated Kolab, without using OpenPKG, into Mandrake:
